"When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all your thoughts break their bonds: Your mind transcends limitations, your consciousness expands in every direction, and you find yourself in a new, great, and wonderful world. Dormant forces, faculties and talents become alive, and you discover yourself to be a greater person by far than you ever dreamed yourself to be." - Patanjali

Rothang La

To get to the seemingly forbidden lands of Leh and Ladakh, one has to pass through the Rothang La (pass in local speak). The Pass to me, had mysterious feel to it...at 4000m, only the ardent could get through its formidable terrain and to the otherside lay the great Himalayas.

So imagine my eyes when the romanticism of Rothang manifested into the below...
...more a summer winter wonderland! Anyways, the following pics are of the journey. The picture below is of the snake of cars winding their way through the glacier. The authorities close the roads for a couple hours at a stretch to remove the snow and ice. So when the mad rush of cars and buses finnally settled into some order, you get the below...

Ah - now that's one place we had spoken about earlier. I still dont know when i'm gonna make that trip to Leh. Given that a close bussy of mine passed away recently on a bike trip, not many of us are driven enough to ride up there. Anyways, were you on 2 or 4 wheels on Rohtang-la ?

Please tell us that you went past the tourist rides and such to the point int he road where you can see the Great Himalayan Range, and the entrances to Lahual on the left and Spiti on the right? It was funny when I went through the pass as none of the tourists went that far but it was far an away oen of the most stunning views I've ever seen.
